Importing and sharing
Trunk copies audio, images and video into your library. The original file in the other app is left alone.
How do I import from Photos or Files?
In the library, open More (the three dots), then choose Import from Photos or Import from Files. Select the photos, videos or audio files you want.
Each selected file becomes a memory. Audio is transcribed, text in images is read, and video gets a transcript of its audio and selected frames. Imported audio and video count toward the free transcription allowance.
How do I send something from another app?
- Use the other app's share action for the audio, photo or video file.
- Choose Trunk in the iPhone share sheet. Look under More if it is not visible.
- Wait for “Saved. Open Trunk to finish.” Then open Trunk and unlock it if asked.
The share sheet saves a local copy for the app to import when it opens. A web link, a note's text or a chat archive is not an audio, photo or video file. If sharing fails, save the media file to Files and use Import from Files.
Can I import Apple's call recordings?
If a call recording is already in Notes, open its recording controls and use the audio's share or save-to-Files option. Share that audio with Trunk, or import the saved file from Files. Share the recording itself, rather than the note's text.
What about Voice Memos?
Select a recording in Voice Memos and use Share. If it asks for a format, choose a rendered audio file. Choose Trunk, or save it to Files and import it there.
What about WhatsApp voice messages?
Use WhatsApp's available share or export option to obtain the voice message as an audio file, then share that file with Trunk or import it from Files. If it arrives inside a chat archive, extract the audio first. Trunk accepts supported Ogg Opus audio as well as other supported audio files; it does not import the chat itself.
How do I share text, PDF or files?
Open a memory with audio, then More → Share as Text or Share as PDF. The memo contains its transcript and a summary when one is available. Choose the destination in the share sheet.
To keep the media files too, choose More → Export…. Sharing and exporting give readable copies to the destination you choose.
For a copy someone can open in a browser, use Share by Link. It has its own expiry and take-back controls.
