Your account and username
One account works in the Trunk app on your iPhone and Mac and on the web, at trunkhere.com/m. There is no password to remember or reset.
How do I make an account or sign in?
Choose Continue with Apple, Continue with Google, or enter your email and the six-digit code sent to it. The code works for ten minutes. The first time, this makes your account; after that, it signs you in. The app and the web offer the same three ways.
You only need an account for the cloud library, links, private collections and publishing. Recording, transcription, search and export work without one.
Why does it say I already have an account?
When Apple or Google gives an address that already belongs to an account, Trunk says so instead of making a second account. Sign in to that account the way you did before, and the new way is added to it. If you really want a separate account, choose Make a New Account.
How do I choose a username?
Your username is how people find your public profile and invite you to a private collection. Your memories stay private. You are asked for one right after you make your account, with a suggestion filled in and a check as you type. Choose Not Now to pick one later; you need one before you publish or join a collection.
A username has 3 to 30 English letters, numbers or single underscores. It starts with a letter and ends with a letter or number. Capitals and underscores do not make a different name, so chase_k and chasek are the same. Names containing “trunk”, “admin”, “official” or “moderator” are not available.
How do I change my username?
Change it on your public profile in the app, or on the Account page at trunkhere.com/m. The first change can come at once; after that, once every 30 days, and the page says when you can next change it. Within 14 days of a change you can switch back to the name you had, without waiting.
Your old profile links keep working, and a name you used is never given to anyone else while your account exists. When an account is deleted, its names are held for at least 35 days.
How do I add another way to sign in?
Choose Settings → Account and, under Ways In, add an email, Apple or Google. Any of them signs you in to the same account. Keep at least two, so losing one does not lock you out. The last one cannot be removed.
I can't sign in
- Try another way you added: Apple, Google or an email address on your account.
- If the code does not come, check the address and your junk or spam folder, then choose Send a New Code.
- If you chose Hide My Email with Apple, your address ends in privaterelay.appleid.com or private.icloud.com. On iPhone, find it in Settings → your name → Sign in with Apple. Choosing Continue with Apple is easier than typing it.
- If you have lost the Apple Account, Google Account or mailbox you sign in with, get it back first, through Apple, Google or your email provider. Then sign in as before.
We cannot move an account to a different sign-in on someone's word, because anyone could claim to be you. That is why Trunk asks you to add a second way in. Once you are back in, add one.
Why does it ask me to confirm it's me?
Before you delete your account, add or remove a way to sign in, or change your username, Trunk asks you to sign in again if you last did so more than ten minutes ago. That keeps someone holding your unlocked phone or browser from making those changes.
Why did I get an email about my account?
Trunk writes to every address on your account when someone signs in, when a way to sign in is added or removed, when your username changes, and when your account is set to be deleted, kept or deleted. If it was not you, choose Settings → Account → Sign Out Everywhere, remove any way in you do not recognise, and write to help@trunkhere.com.
How do I delete my account?
Choose Settings → Account → Delete Account…, or the Account page on the web, then one of two choices:
- Delete in 30 Days signs you out everywhere at once and takes your public profile, stories, links and collections away from others. Sign in before the date to keep the account; that cancels the deletion. On the date, it is deleted.
- Delete Now deletes the account, the cloud library, your links, private collections and public stories at once.
Either way, the memories on your devices stay. Deleting the account does not cancel an Apple subscription; cancel it in your Apple Account's subscription settings.
